Instaltion

Here are some images of my finished piece in the space, as you can see it is much larger than i first planed. I think the image works well in the space, with all the dirt and grubbiness of the bottom platform and the wall.

evaluation

1. This is the final design of my piece, though it is bigger then i designed first. The first idea for my final piece was to have one image with a dark filter over the top, i then spoke to my mentor, who suggested having three different images as one piece, so that is what i did. I the decided i would have my images as a kind of glitch art and printed them all as A4 and mounted them in a windowed mount board.

After looking at the space i realised that my piece was far too small for the space, so i had my images printed at A1 and mounted them on an 8ft white backing board.

2. I believe my skills have developed over this project, for example use of photoshop, i was experimenting with filters all the way though the project and feel i have become a better photo editor.

3. So far i have had good feedback for my piece, from my mentor and from the changing spaces lady, i took my friend brad to see it the other day and he was impressed with what i had done. I also spoke to some people who stopped and they said that the could imagine such a piece in a gallery, but they may have just said that because they knew it was mine.

4. Im very proud of my final piece, Im glad i got it blown up because it looks far better at the size it is now. If i had more time to complete the project i think i would have made more images so i could of had a bigger installation.

Final installation piece

The Piece i put up in the shop window ended up being very different to the piece i had posted earlier. The piece i originally made was too small for the space and ended up being overwhelmed by it, So i had each image printed size A1 and mounted them on a 8ft board that fills the space.

Health, Safety and Copyright

Considering the issue of health and safety when cutting out the windows in the mount board, i had a photography teacher show me how to use the tools properly so i would not cut myself wile using it.
Also i took regular screen brakes wile editing my images as not to damage my eyes.

To adress the issue of Copyright i made sure the images i used were under the creative commons license to be Reused and Modified.

final piece

Statement of intent

  1. Title: I am currently waiting till my piece is finished before i name it.
  1. Medium: I decided to use Digital Media because i am used to working with photoshop and i feel i have more control over what I’m doing as a pose to conventional art Mediums.
  1. Format: I am using Adobe Photoshop to create the Images for my Piece, i am planning to have 3 images all around A5 Size.
  1. subject matter: My subject Matter is the personal issue of Host Migration, My final piece will be a twist on Host Migration.
  1. What Processes + Techniques will you employ: In Photoshop i am taking my images and applying filters to darken and make them hard to make out properly then applying the text host migration across all three. to darken the image i have been creating a layer over the top of the image and filling it in black, then changing the opacity of that layer, i prefer this method because you can get a far darker filter than any of the presets.

This is a reminder of my Statement, overall all everything has gone to plan with my project and i have only made a few cosmetic changes to the original design, for example having it as three different images rather than one and making the images look like there was some kind of computer malfunction wile they were being made.

If i had more time i would have looked online for a tutorial to make the image fade into pixels and some other cool effects.

    Final image design

    Feed Back

Today a representative of Changing Spaces came to see my work and give me some feed back,
She seemed to like the idea behind my work and suggested that i try to disrupt my image even more so i am going to print out my images in reverse and stick them face down in a glue that dries clear the scrape off the paper when it has dried so some of the images will fall out and make it look like a found artefact.

    Mentor Feedback

Today i spoke to Nick about my project, Nick said i should be looking for examples of out of copyright art. He also had an idea about my final piece to split it into 3 different images with host migration written once across all three. i like the idea and plan now to explore other ways to present my piece that i haven't thought of yet.

    Mentor

I am going to appoint Nick Potamitis as my Mentor. I chose nick because he has a PHD in Greek Cinema and is media teacher, so he is someone i can ask for a creative and objective opinion.

    Breakdown

I am planning for my piece to be about A3, printed out from digital media, photoshop after i have edited the image. I will be using Adobe Photoshop to edit and manipulate the image that i have taken myself or found on creative commons. I would imagine my piece to be mounted on something and hung in the window. I think it will work in the space because the image will be very dark and hard to see properly so i would expect people to look hard at it to try to see that it is.

    Synopsis

The main idea is most migration. it is something that happens on pear to pear hosted severs on video games. The idea i have it to find a pice of creative commons fine art or take an artistic photo my self and apply a filter to darken the image so it is hard to see what it is, so the meaning of the image is objective.

    TweetPitch

My basic Idea is to have a pice of fine art with a dark filter over the top making it hard to see, with host migration over the top.

    Host Migration definition

    Host migration;

If a match host leaves the game, or if the host struggles to support the game, a 'host migration delay' allows a new host to be selected and the game to continue.

    Issue

The Issue i have chosen to work on is the personal Issue of, Host Migration.
I chose this as my Issue because i encounter 'Host Migration' a lot playing peer to peer hosted server video games.
What sparked my interest in this Issue, Is the feeling of rage when the host drops out of the game and you all have to wait wile the game picks a new one, And the annoyingly inconvenient time it happens.
